Lesson 2: Can you see God?

Updated: Nov 28, 2018

God is Love and He made us to reflect His love to others.

Lesson Objective

Understanding God is Love and He made us to reflect His love to others.

Let's sing the song "Can you see God?"

Discussion time

Do you remember the answer to the question in the song? Can you see God?

(No, God is a spirit, and He doesn’t have a body like man. Though I cannot see God, I know He always sees me.)

Listen to the song again and let's find the Bible verse in the song. Jeremiah 23:23-24

Let's read Jeremiah 23: 23-24 together.

“Am I only a God nearby, and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see Him? Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 23:23-24

Discussion time

Does God have a body like man? (No, God is a spirit, and He doesn't have a body like man.) Since God does not have a body, can we reflect what He looks like? (No) We can't reflect what He looks like, but God made us in His image so we could do things that reflect what He is like. The Bible says, "God is love." Did you know God made us to reflect His love? When we act in a loving way, others can see God's love in us.

Lets Read 1 John 4:8 together.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8

In this scripture verse, what does God tell us He is? (God is love.) If God made us to reflect His image then how can we reflect what God is like? (When we act in a loving way, others can see God's love in us.)

Object Lesson

Let the children look into several different mirrors, a big mirror, or a small mirror, one with a red frame or a blue frame, the image is always the same. Why? Because even though each of these mirrors is different, they all reflect the same image in the same way. Even though each one of us is different, we are all made in the image of God, and should reflect what God is like.

Let's pray together

Thank you God for being love and for making us to Reflect your love to others.
