Adam and Eve were made to reflect God’s love, and they did it perfectly before the fall.

Lesson Objective
Understanding how Adam and Eve were made to reflect God's love, and they did it perfectly until they sinned.
Let's sing the song "What Were Adam And Eve Like When God Made Them?"
Discussion time
Do you remember the answer to the question in the song? What were Adam and Eve like when God made them? (God made them holy and happy.)
Adam and Eve were the first two people to reflect God's image, and they did it perfectly, because their hearts had no sin within. They reflected God's love as they ruled over the animals, birds and fish. They even reflected His image as they ate, worked and played.
Why isn't our world like that now? Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God. They sinned and lost the ability to perfectly reflect God's image.
What Happened To Adam And Eve When They Sinned? (Instead of being holy and happy, they became sinful and miserable.)
Object Lesson
For greater emphasis, break a small mirror and cover with clear tape. Let the children see this, but do not let them touch it. Emphasize that there is no way to fix a mirror.
Discussion time
Listen to what God says in Romans 3:23.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
This verse tells us, because of sin, each one of us has lost the ability to truly reflect what God is like.
The mirrors of our lives have been broken. Just as this cracked mirror cannot truly reflect what we are like, we cannot truly reflect what God is like.
Can we put this broken mirror back together with glue and make it as good as new? No. A broken mirror is always broken.
Just as we would need new mirrors to reflect our image, we need new lives to reflect God's image.
Only Jesus can give us the ability to properly reflect the image of God.
Listen to what God says in Romans 6:23.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
Wages are what we are paid when we do a job. God says the wages for our sin is death.
Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sin.
Because Christ paid the price for our sin, God can give us the gift of eternal life.
Remember what Romans 6:23 said? (For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord)
If you want to receive this gift and belong to Jesus, then you must ask forgiveness for your sin and receive the new life God will give you. When you receive Jesus' gift of new life, it's like being given a new mirror to replace the old one, broken by sin.
The dark sinful heart you had becomes new and clean.
Day by day, as you look into God's word and see Jesus’ reflection there, God will give you the power to become more and more like Him. As you do, others will begin to see God's likeness in you.
Let's pray together
Thank you God for your gift of Jesus our Lord, who has made a way for us to reflect your love again.
