We love our volunteers! Meet Suzanne, a homeschooling mom with 4 kids. She raised her kids listening to Songs for Saplings, really believes in our mission, and wanted to help.
When she chose to stay home and homeschool her kids, she knew money might be tight. Suzanne and her husband knew they couldn’t contribute as much financially to our mission as they would have liked, but Suzanne knew she had a skill and a small amount of free time. Boy, are we glad she did. Suzanne is a trained bookkeeper and she’s been volunteering for Songs for Saplings for over 5 years now.
“I can’t write songs or travel the world,” she said, “but I can do bookkeeping. James and Dana have such a heart for the Lord. They are spreading the word and the Gospel to the far reaches of the earth. That I can help, even in this tiny way, is so exciting for me.”
Just so you know, the Dirksens don’t consider it “tiny” at all. “Suzanne has become key to our organization,” said James. “She tracks our income and expenses, pays the bills, prepares our yearly non-profit reports, and much more”.
“When the kids were younger, I worked during naptime and in the evenings,” Suzanne says. Now her children are between 9 and 15. Suzanne is still homeschooling, and has found volunteering still meshes well with their schedule – she works on Songs for Saplings when the kids do their heads-down work.
As a stay-at-home mom, Suzanne also has enjoyed the opportunity to do something that interests her. “This helps my adult brain. I enjoy this. The bookkeeping I enjoy doing anyway, and then that it’s furthering Songs for Saplings is a gift.” She also loves working with the team, finding them helpful and responsive. “I always know that I can call and email them and ask them anything at any time and they will respond without fail.”
We’re so thankful for Suzanne. We couldn’t do our work around the world without her.
If you have a gift to share, get in touch with a ministry near you and offer up your time and skill to them. They will be forever grateful for you -- just like we are for Suzanne.
